Yacht Charter Sailing in Turkey and Greece

Sailing Routes and Cruising Areas

March Through November 2008

(Links in Underlined Blue Text)

The plan in 2008 is to take the Charter Sailing Yacht T.G. Ellyson Cruising Areas
Turkey And Greeceas far north as Greek Lesbos and Turkish Dikili (near Pergamum), as far south as Greek Kasos (near Crete), as far east as Turkish Antalya, and as far west as Greek Sifnos (not far from the Peloponnese). Within these extremes, and guest preferences permitting, we would encourage short-termers and flat-water sailors to restrict their itineraries to a customized Lycian Sailing Holiday in Turkey's Gulf of Fethiye, and others cruising for no more than seven days to customize within one or more of three itineraries we describe as Alexander's Path (Gulf of Fethiye and southeast), Cleopatra's Route (Gulf of Fethiye and northwest), and Aegean Sailing Odyssey. On extended bookings we would as mentioned be prepared to take the boat further afield, such as Sailing The Greek Cyclades or as in North From Ephesus up the Aegean coast of Turkey to Pergamum and Greek Lesbos.

Each of the foregoing itineraries is a roadmap to history, dealing with the crossroads of history, the locales at which history was invented. Herodotus wrote the first history, entitled History, in the middle of the fifth century BC, a treatise encompassing a world populated by Greeks and barbarians. Barbarians were mostly those peoples east of the coast of modern Turkey, Lydians and Phrygians and Cilicians and Carians and Lycians and, most of all, Persians. History encompasses developments up to and through the Greco-Persian wars culminating in the battles of Salamis and Plataea near Athens. There, in 480 BC, the tide of Persian empire was reversed.

The birthplace and early home of Herodotus was Halicarnassus, now Bodrum (Aegean Sailing Odyssey), in ancient Caria. At the time, Halicarnassus was populated by both Greeks and barbarians and was under the control first of Persians and later of Athenians. Then as now Halicarnassus and the coast of modern Turkey were playgrounds for those who could afford to play, and were home to the pantheon of Gods and Goddesses (see Greek Gods To Know) to whom, with the oracle at Delphi, Herodotus gave considerable credit for the course of events. Today the home of Leto, mother of Apollo and Artemis, may be found behind the beach at modern Kalkan (see Alexander's Path), while the birthplace of those twins may be inspected at Delos. Any TGE excursion, moreover, may be expected to involve sailing with Poseidon and the dolphins which pull his chariot, and to involve as well visits to temples of numerous of the pantheon. Following Herodotus and his fellow historian Thucydides a generation later came all the other personages of eastern Mediterranean history: Mausolus, Alexander of Macedon, Pompey The Great, Cleopatra, Constantine, Justinian, Suleiman The Magnificent, the Barbarossa Brothers of Lesbos, and countless others. They all left a mark which may be found here while also enjoying clean air, turquoise blue seas, an extraordinary cuisine, and most-hospitable hosts. Come see for yourself.

Dear Homo Sapiens, There is no need to continue reading this page. What follows is intended for search engine robots and spiders and, perhaps, for the humbled. Further information concerning holiday routes and cruising areas in Turkey and Greece may be obtained by clicking on the blue links immediately above. Thank You. Yacht charter Turkey. Yacht charter Greece. A sailing holiday or honeymoon to remember cruising the Turquoise Coast of Turkey and the Aegean islands of Greece. A sailing holiday with a crew experienced in where to go, how to get there, and what to do upon arrival. The year 2007 was the sailing yacht T.G. Ellyson's twenty-fifth year cruising Greek and Turkish waters, its crew in that period barely scratching the surface of eastern Mediterranean customs, mores, and history. The year 2007 was also the fifth year of U.S. occupation in nearby Iraq where ancient Mesopotamia has been obliterated. There the occupiers are not at all familiar with local customs, mores, and history, while those who dispatched the occupiers have only the most superficial awareness. The TGE crew is uncertain of the genesis of this illegal occupation other than to recognize it as the Bush administration's Greater Middle East Initiative. Developed by an iconoclastic coterie including Donald Rumsfeld (for more on Rumsfeld see the disclaimer at the foot of www.tgeyacht.com/index.html), Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, and employing, "if you will," Richard Cheney as assertive pit bull, we are uncertain whether the Greater Middle East Initiative was

developed to secure crude oil supplies, to create neighbors friendly to Israel, to demonstrate a National Security Strategy doctrine of preemption, the exercise of unbridled power, or simply to assuage monumental egos. It certainly was not developed for fear of weapons of mass destruction. That was the excuse, the "slam-dunk," sold to the American public. For whatever reason developed, however, history (for more on history's lessons not learned see the disclaimer at the foot of www.tgeyacht.com/Itinerary2.htm) teaches that no outside occupying power, be it Greek, be it Roman, or be it British, will long meet with success in this part of the world. Democracy at the end of a gun barrel is, in Greek, Sisyphean, in Latin, a non sequitur, or in English, a fallacy based on upside-down logic disdaining of local customs and mores. Richard Perle, one of the aforementioned coterie, is master of curled-lip disdain for local customs, mores, and alternative views (for more on Perle see the disclaimer at the foot of www.tgeyacht.com/Itinerary4.htm). Others in his coterie such as Paul Wolfowitz (see disclaimer at www.tgeyacht.com/CrewBios.htm) are also short on practical awareness and long on self-esteem. They are each in the process of being humbled. Tragically, lives and limbs, jobs and dreams are being lost in the process. Meanwhile the T.G. Ellyson in 2007 was mostly praying for an end to it all.
